Big Lagoon School is a rural public elementary school serving grades serving students in Transitional Kindergarten to Grade 8, situated on a 10-acre site, 26 miles north of Eureka, California. The school is located just off Highway 101, surrounded by a Sitka Spruce forest. Our students enjoy the benefits of being a five minute walk from a large freshwater lagoon and miles of sandy beaches and dunes, with a habitat rich in environmental opportunities associated with coastal Pacific lands. The district is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, Big Lagoon County Park and the Big Lagoon Rancheria to the north, Simpson Lumber Company land to the east, and Patrick's Point State Park to the South. The school was built in 1956. Our 50th anniversary was celebrated by students designing and creating a special garden area. A third generation student led the ribbon-cutting ceremony. A major modernization project was completed in the summer of 1996. We have a computer lab and library. The facility is in excellent condition. Come
