The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
program is coordinated by HCOE to assist districts in developing unique education opportunities for high-achieving and underachieving pupils in elementary and secondary schools who have been identified as gifted and talented.

GATE coordinators in the county meet on a monthly basis to share curriculum and other resources as well as to plan the annual GATE Academy. The GATE Network calendar for the 2011/12 school year is:

• September 9 (1–3pm) GATE Network Meeting in HCOE Sequoia
  
• October 6 (1-3pm) GATE Network Meeting in HCOE Annex – Presenter forms due
  
• Week of October 10: Student registration forms go to schools
  
• November 1: Presenter fees due to HCOE
  
• November 3: (1-4pm) GATE Network Meeting in HCOE Sequoia - Students assigned to classes
  
• December 8 (1-3pm) GATE Network Meeting in HCOE Annex
  
• January 6 (9:15-1:45pm) GATE ACADEMY 2012 at Humboldt State University
  
• February 9 (1-3pm): GATE Network Meeting in HCOE Annex
