Teacher Support Services
The most important part of education is what happens between the teacher and the student in the classroom. Whether that “classroom” is a traditional one at one of our local schools, visiting the local wildlife refuge to explore the richness that resource has to offer in the study of science or meeting with California State Park rangers through videoconferencing in a “virtual” classroom (PORTS), the Humboldt County Office of Education believes in supporting local teachers with the information and resources they need.

Check out the HERC in the Louis D. Bucher Teacher Resource Center where K-8 adopted instructional materials in all subject areas are on continuous display. The Library and Media Center features a 36,000 book collection, classroom literature sets, early literacy resources, standards aligned videos, science and math kits and much more. Access to internet based resources for teachers and students is one of the newer offerings and is continually being updated to meet the current needs of teachers.

Support for using technology in the classroom or help in meeting the challenging needs of English Language Learners is available. The importance of Visual and Performing Arts, Nutrition Education, Preschool Instructional support and other specialized services for teachers is provided.

Professional development is a priority at the Humboldt County Office of Education and we take seriously the importance of providing the finest instructional leaders and trainings for our local teachers.

Please explore what we currently offer and let us know if there are ways we can be of better service to Humboldt County teachers. As was mentioned earlier, what happens between the teacher and student in the classroom is the most important part of education.
