Burt Nordstrom A Mutually beneficial relationship between Burt Nordstrom and Humboldt State University has reaped benefits for both the man and the school. But the true benefactors are the students who continue to gain rewards born from the relationship. Nordstrom, who gave his heart and soul to the university as a football and baseball player from 1969 to 1972, continues to support the football team at Humboldt State by serving as color analyst for its radio broadcast. He makes time for the broadcast despite a busy career as Director of University Center and CEO of Lumberjack Enterprises. Now describing the action on the field to listeners, Nordstrom was creating the action during his own playing career. On the gridiron, he was a versatile player who might play flanker, slotback, halfback and kick returner all in the same game. As the team's leading rusher in 1971, Nordstrom was honored with the Outstanding Offensive Back award by a vote of his teammates. But it was the baseball diamond where he achieved his greatest glory; earning all-conference honors as a pitcher all three of the years he participated. During his sophomore and junior seasons, Nordstrom led the league in both strikeouts and earned run average. The major leagues took notice of his success at Humboldt and as a member of the Humboldt Crabs, leading Nordstrom to being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals at the conclusion of his junior season. Following a stint in the Cardinals' organization, he returned to Humboldt State to finish his degree. He and his wife Christine live in Arcata with their daughter, Shannon.
