Pacific View Charter School - School History Pacific View Charter School opened in January 1999, by the Loleta Union Elementary School District, serving students in 5 local counties. The school began operations as a independent study charter school with sites in Loleta, Eureka, Fortuna, Crescent City, Garberville, and Yreka. The school main office began on the Loleta Elementary School campus until 2003 when it moved to the current Eureka site. Between 1999 and 2006, the school consolidated sites and by 2006 maintained two sites in Eureka and Crescent City. In 2006, Pacific View opened site based programs at the Eureka site. Students in grades 1 - 12 had the option of small classes on the Eureka site. The offering of both Independent Study and Site Based programs has been positively accepted by the population we serve. Currently the site based program maintains a 5th/6th grade classroom, a 7th grade classroom, an 8th grade classroom, and a 9th – 12th high school program. Pacific View serves approximately 225 students each year with a staff of 15 teachers and 6 support staff. We are a WASC accredited California public school. The curriculum adheres to the California State Standards and utilizes a variety of teaching methods and styles. Each class is unique our teaching staff values the strength of student mentoring and peer collaboration. Our Independent Study Program students meet with a teacher a minimum of once every four weeks. Once a week meetings are the average for Independent Study students. Many students come to campus every day and work with teachers in small groups. Some students integrate into the site based classes for specific subjects. The teacher, student, and family create an instructional approach that best compliments the students educational goals and learning style. All students are expected to maintain a high standard of ethics and quality, meeting both school and state standards.
